Durham Times Column – 4/12/14 – Trio of games a real test for Sunderland and Gus Poyet

This week’s column comes from Craig Clark.

WITH the festive period fast approaching, Gus Poyet and his squad will be tested to their limits.

I write this ahead of the midweek visit of Manchester City (here’s hoping we’ve secured what has become our annual 1-0 victory), which – along with the Chelsea game – represents just the start of a congested fixture list in the next 30 days.

Like everyone else in the Premier League, Sunderland will have already bitten into a December schedule containing seven fixtures, with an eighth on New Year’s Day. Given that injuries have already proven to be an issue in the opening quarter of the season, it’s to be hoped that returning bodies will be the rule and further absences the exception.
