Cans & Megabus – Your Indispensable Guide to Burnley (A)

Burnley on a Friday night, what a treat, what a privilege.

Let’s be honest, Sunderland will most likely get walloped in this fixture so all I can provide you with is just an excellent bit of British television. Skip forward to 28 minutes in, sit back and enjoy Danny Dyer giving a better advert for Burnley than the town’s tourist board ever could.

How Do I Get There?

If you’re driving then take the A1(M), A61, A59, A56 and M65 to junction 11 before leaving to head into Burnley. Follow the signs to Turf Moor and you’ll find Turf Moor. You can park at the cricket ground next to Turf Moor or find some street parking.

Since there isn’t a train strike for this weekend, all you rail shaggers will be able to use the beautiful, reliable and affordable Northern rail service to Burnley. Accessible from both Manchester Victoria and Leeds, you’ll likely arrive at Burnley Manchester Road station which is about a 25-minute walk to the ground.

What’s the Ground Like?

Despite Burnley’s vast investment in Turf Moor, the away stand is still pretty much a shack with wooden seats. You do get the privilege of sharing the David Fishwick Stand with the lovely Burnley supporters, so that’s something to look forward to.

Hey, do you like drinking beer from a plastic glass on a cricket pavilion? Well, you’re in luck because you can do just that at the cricket ground next to Turf Moor. Hey, do you not like drinking beer from a plastic glass on a cricket pavilion? Well, I’ve got some other pubs you could drink in.

Cans & Megabus’ main recommendation is The Bridge Bier Huis on Bank Parade which serves a wide range of real ale and fancy European lagers. The New Brew’m Pub on St James’ Row is a good shout if you’re into craft beer, you’ve also got the refined charm of The Swan and The Boot Inn (both on St James’ Street) if you’re that way inclined.

You can also visit the famous The Royal Dyche pub close to the ground, a perplexing tribute to the current Everton manager, Sean Dyche.
