Durham Times Column: Another pivotal weekend in the relegation battle

AS THE 2014/2015 Premier League season comes to a close over the next two weekends, all eyes will be on the relegation battle, which Sunderland find themselves in the midst of once again.

 

After back to back wins, Dick Advocaat will be confident of leading his side to survival, starting with this weekend’s crunch clash with Leicester City.

 

A win against the in form Foxes could potentially secure another season of top flight football on Wearside, if Hull City fail to win away at Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United lose away to QPR.

 

While Newcastle could still mathematically survive, it would require a significant swing in goal difference. That said, with Arsenal and Chelsea to visit, there’s every chance Sunderland could mastermind their own downfall if they’re battered in the capital.
