How Do I Get There?

Yeh, Cheltenham is absolutely miles away. If you’re driving take the A1(M), M1, M42 and M5 to junction 10 near Cheltenham. Then it’s simply a case of hitting the sweet asphalt of the A4019 and following the signs for the Jonny-Rocks Stadium. There’s a car park at the ground or you can find some street parking.

For those of you on the train, you’ll arrive at Cheltenham Spa station which is about a 40-minute walk from the ground. The plus side is you’ll walk past plenty of alehouses to break up the journey.

What’s the Ground Like?

Cheltenham’s home since 1932, Whaddon Road is the kind of ground that we’ve come so accustomed to in this hellscape of a division. It has yer typical terrace for home fans, a main stand that looks like (and probably has) been there since the invention of the wheel, and a comfortable seated stand for away fans behind one goal.

You’d like to think that renaming your stadium to JONNY-ROCKS STADIUM would be in honour of some outlandish cabaret act that plays the clubs and pubs of Cheltenham. Alas, it’s actually just named after a chauffeur and executive car service.

Every now and then, us here at Cans & Megabus like to give our biggest fans the opportunity to have a section all to themselves. So, thank you Cans & Megabus superfan and 30-year-old loser Matthew Keeling for providing the following recommendations for pubs in Cheltenham that he researched all by himself.

Head to the High Street and pop in the Sandford Park Alehouse and treat yourself to their huge selection of fancy imported beer and some homegrown favourites as well. Also on High Street, is the Frog & Fiddle which serves up some great beer from Butcombe Brewing Company and is only a 15-minute walk from the ground.

If you’re a real ale shagger then The Strand, again on High Street, then you can have a real ale there or The Brewhouse & Kitchen in the Brewery Quarter is also an excellent shout. Essentially, there’s pubs all over Cheltenham.
