Pioneers of the calamitous fly-on-the-wall documentary where “everything goes wrong”, QPR’s commitment to chaos has seemingly fallen by the wayside in recent years. They’ve taken up Ipswich Town’s mantle of just being in the Championship, they’re not really going to do anything except be in the Championship.
Anyway, gird yer loins because here’s your guide to QPR, Loftus Road and Shepherd’s Bush.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
If you are going to take this baffling decision then it’s A1(M) and then M1 all the way down to London. Here you’ll need to snake your way along the A406, through Wormwood Scrubs then follow the signs for Shepherd’s Bush. There’s pretty much no parking near the ground so have fun!
Sat nav losers need to punch in W12 7PA.
If you’re on the train and coming from King’s Cross, you’ll need to get on the Central Line to White City and then the ground is just a short walk away. Alternatively, and if you’re thirsty, get off at Shepherds Bush and find a cosy pub.
WHAT’S THE GROUND LIKE?
Loftus Road is one of those grounds where everyone thinks it’s great because it’s got a few supporting poles obstructing but in reality it’s crap. It’s really cramped and if you’re in the upper tier it feels as if you’re falling on to the pitch, but yeh, against modern football or something.
WHERE’S BEST FOR SUNDERLAND FANS TO DRINK?
In Cans & Megabus’ experience, trying to get a pint around Loftus Road and Shepherd’s Bush on a Sunderland matchday can prove troublesome if you carry the dulcet Northern tones as we do. However, we are basing this on a game in 2014, so things may have changed by now.
The designated ‘away pub’ is the, quite frankly, awful Belushi’s Bar on Shepherd’s Bush Green, so if you want to go in there, be our guest.
There are plenty of pubs around Shepherds Bush Green, such as The Green Pub and the obligatory Wetherspoons in the W12 shopping centre. However, venture a little further down Goldhawk Road and you’ll find the classic old school boozer of The Shepherd & Flock and a decent pint of Guinness in O’Donoghue’s.
Sindercombe Social and Brewdog Shepherd’s Bush are also good options but with all of these recommendations, we can’t guarantee they’re going to be losers and enforce a pathetic ‘Home Fans Only’ policy.
WHAT’S TO DO IN SHEPHERD’S BUSH?
I guess if you like shopping there’s the big Westfield shopping centre, but you’re also in London and if you can’t find something good to do there you really are a massive loser.
