Cans & Megabus – Your indispensable guide to AFC Wimbledon (A)!

Tom Walsh has a good old look at Plough Lane ahead of Sunderland's trip there on Saturday

Alex Neil and Jermain Defoe – together at last!

Enjoy this wild time supporting League One’s premier loser club Sunderland AFC by clutching your AFC Wimbledon ticket on an A4 printout and taking another huge slice of delicious SkyBet. Bask in the knowledge that Sunderland will never, ever be promoted from the rusted bucket of a division as we play a team that didn’t exist the last time we were actually good.

What a wonderful time to be alive.

How Do I Get There?

If you didn’t know, Wimbledon is an absolute bastard to get to so if you’re taking the car I’d recommend you go the day before or not at all. Take the A1(M), M1 and M25 until you reach junction 10 for the A3. Follow this onto Worple Road and Gap Road until you see signs for the ground. Do I know where to park? Absolutely not.

By train or Underground, the best way is probably taking the Victoria line to Vauxhall and then jumping on a train to Earlsfield and then walk from there.

What’s the Ground Like?

After all the palava and the droning about the ‘romance’ of Wimbledon returning to Plough Lane, it’s great to see that the stadium looks intensely like a “REGIONAL STADIUM 4” on Football Manager. Wedged in between a load of modern apartments and petrol stations, it’s hardly a stadium that has you feeling all warm and fuzzy for the Crazy Gang of yesteryear.

Sunderland fans will be in the North Stand and will get a delightful view of some IT consultant ironing their shirts.

Yer thirsty?

Not going to lie, boys and girls, it looks pretty slim pickings for watering holes near Plough Lane. If you get the Underground to Wimbledon Park, then you can try The Woodman Pub on Durnsford Road. However, if you’d like a few more options then there’s plenty of pubs in Wimbledon itself.

Around Wimbledon station there’s the Alexandra on Wimbledon Hill Road which is yer traditional boozer. While the Prince of Wales (Hartfield Road) and The Old Frizzle (The Broadway) are also palatable choices to get fully tanked up before the match.

What’s This Place Like?

If you want somewhere that has all the vibes of Milton Keynes but isn’t quite Milton Keynes, then come on down to Wimbledon!
