A GAME against Arsenal was never likely to provide a suitable cure for the hangover caused by the battering at St Mary’s last weekend.

 

Yet there’s still an overwhelming sense of disappointment following the 2-0 loss on Saturday.

 

And if fans weren’t feeling twitchy enough, Newcastle’s victory in North London yesterday means next weekend’s fixtures will be played out with Sunderland already in the bottom three and not playing until Monday.

 

Gus Poyet has acknowledged that his players reacted as positively as possible in terms of effort and desire; something I doubt many fans would argue with. But it clearly wasn’t enough to take anything from the game.
